It is truly amazing to see a woodpecker at work. If a human tried to do what a woodpecker does, our skulls would be crushed. While it is awe inspiring to watch, however, it can also be very destructive to a home if a woodpecker decides to start pecking at it.

What is it that attracts woodpeckers to a home? Most of the time it will be food. Woodpeckers have great hearing and eyesight. They can spot entry holes from wood boring bugs on your home, and they can hear them digging inside the walls.

Naturally, the best way for you to dissuade them is to get rid of the bugs, especially since they are doing damage to your home as well. Sometimes you can kill them off with pesticides, but it could be necessary to get the services of an exterminator to take care of a serious bug infection.

Sometimes, however, a woodpecker could just use your home as a sounding board to attract females, and if this is the case, you can try restricting access to areas they seem to have taken a liking to with some type of netting.
