Falls down stairs are high up on the list of potential hazards in your home. It can be especially deadly for a very young or a very old person. While most of us might be aware of this doesn’t mean that anything has been done to prevent this danger. So what can you do?

The first thing you should do is figure out what the risks could be in your place. If you have young children or older ones in your home that are suffering from dementia or are prone to wandering, it might be necessary to have a door or similar barrier installed.

You should also make sure the stairs are in good repair. If there is carpet on them, it should be firmly attached. Your handrails should be sturdy enough to support the weight of someone losing their balance and free of splinters and cracks. Keeping your stairs in good repair can save someone’s life.
