By far, the most common siding material is vinyl. Why is that? The foremost reason is the low price, but vinyl is also durable and easy to maintain.

With proper maintenance vinyl will last a long time, especially since the color won’t fade, it will not rust or rot and is hard to dent. To care for any dirt build-up or mold growth, the occasional pressure wash is all that is needed. If you don’t have the equipment yourself, there are many professional services that will take care of it fairly inexpensively.

Vinyl siding does have some downsides. In extreme heat it can melt, especially if you were to inadvertently place a grill or another heat source too close to your house.

In areas with cold weather, there is also the risk of extreme temperatures making the vinyl brittle, and thus more prone to cracking or breaking. Care should be exercised in the wintertime to not unnecessarily bump in to the siding.
