How often do you get up into your attic? For most of us, it’s not that often, and that is why some homeowners have chosen to use a pull-down ladder for attic access instead of having stairs. It saves a lot of space, and it isn’t that inconvenient to use if you don’t go up there very often. It is however very important to remember the shortcomings that those ladders have to prevent injury.

If your attic pull-down ladder isn’t installed correctly, it could pull out of the place where it was mounted. It should be firmly attached to the studs around it with plenty of fasteners to make sure it is held in place securely.

Since pull-down ladders have a joint, the ladder shouldn’t be at too much of an angle, since the pressure on that joint could end up being to much for it to handle.

To minimize risk, you should have someone hand you things that you are bringing up into the ladder instead of carrying them up the ladder while you climb it. This will minimize the strain on it.
